DSM Elastomers Americas begins major modernization of its Addis (LA - USA) site

Four year, multi-million dollar project will enable cost effective operations

DSM Elastomers Americas (former DSM Copolymer) is preparing for a major plant modernization of its Addis, Louisiana EPDM plant site. A plant turn-around completed during August this year marks the start of a four (4) year, multi-million dollar project named "Horizon 20/20".

Phase one, now underway, includes a $10 million capital investment to support specialty processes for DSM’s global petroleum additive business.

Production capacity

Lincoln Widmer, Marketing Director (DSM Elastomers Americas) stated that the Addis site has already seen an increase in production capacity this year because of the plant turn-around conducted last October. "This added capacity has proved vital in supporting strong market demand in North America during the first 8 months of 1999. We have already made several major contractual commitments against these added capabilities. We expect industry-wide utilization rates of EPDM plants in North America to remain well above 94% next year, a situation that will keep the market tight and requires us to maintain our plants in top running condition".
